DAY 1 - FRIDAY, November 6, 2020
Opening Ceremony for Virtual Zoohackathon
5PM: Welcome Video Clip from High-Level Embassy Principal (Live or Pre-Recorded) (5-7 minutes)
5:10PM: Keynote Video Clip from OES Senior Bureau Official Jonathan Moore
5:20PM : In-Person Welcome and Introduction from the President of the Free Spirit Foundation
5.30PM : Keynote from Interpol representative
5.45PM : Keynote from a wildlife conservation program (WWF or IUCN)
6:00PM: Virtual Wildlife Quiz
6.20PM : Review Problem Statements by a Free Spirit representative
6:40PM: Sign off for Day 1
DAY 2 - SATURDAY, November 7, 2020
8:00AM – Welcome/Kick-Off Message for Day 2 from a conservationist or celebrity who is well-known in Europe (eg : Jane Goodall, Nicolas Hulot, Yann Arthus Bertrand)
8:10AM - Release Participants to Start their Coding
First Session of uninterrupted Coding
The teams will work in their groups, pick which problem statement they want to work on, and begin brainstorming ideas about the solutions that they want to create
Through Slack, teams will communicate with each other on tech ideas, designs, and coding with help from the technology and wildlife conservation mentors
2:00PM: Live Technology Mentorship Presentation (30 minutes)
2:30PM - 6:00PM : Second Session of Uninterrupted Coding
Teams will continue to code, communicate with each other by Slack, and ask any questions of the mentors
6:00PM: Live Wildlife Conservation Presentation (30 minutes)
6:30PM – 11PM : Third Session of Uninterrupted Coding
11PM: Short Video for Conclusion of Day 2
DAY 3 - SUNDAY, November 8, 2020
7AM: The Free Spirit Foundation will send a “Good Morning” email to all of the participants that welcomes them to Day 3 (the final day)
7AM: Pre-recorded video message from our 2019 Global Winners
7:30 - Fourth and Final Session of Uninterrupted Coding
Teams will finalize their demo technology solution ideas and code
10:30AM :Presentation Prep
For this hour and a half, participants will create a short video (1-2 minutes) or a PPT-based presentation (3 slides max) that describes their tech solution idea
These materials will be shown to the panel of judges
In order for the teams’ solution ideas to qualify and be reviewed by the judging panel, the participants must upload their tech solution ideas, presentations, and videos to DevPost by 12PM noon
The final presentations should be 3 slides maximum
For their presentations, teams should mostly focus on the explanation of their solution technology and not the wildlife trafficking challenges – the time will be short, so they should focus on the most important part: the tech solution
12.00PM
Participants need to finish their presentations about their solution idea by 12noon
They will also need to upload their solution idea and basic code to DevPost by 12noon
They will need to be prepared to answer questions from the panel of judges
12PM – 4PM – LUNCH and BREAK (4 hours)
12PM – 2:00PM – Implementing partners and mentors review and make the first cut of the presentations
While the participants are having lunch and taking a break, the implementing partners and mentors should quickly look through the presentations and evaluate them for quality and solution idea
The implementing partner and mentors should choose the top 10 best presentations/solution ideas to show the judges for their evaluation
This will ensure the final solution ideas are high-quality and will expedite the judging session
The implementing partner and mentors can chat amongst themselves through a Slack Channel
2:00PM – Judges Review Top 10 Solution Ideas from DevPost
The judges will review the top 10 best presentations/solution ideas that were identified by the implementing partner and mentors
The judges can chat amongst themselves through a Slack Channel
4:00PM: Judges attend a video conference the judges will join a one-hour video-conferencing session just for themselves and together, they will talk about their favorite solution ideas and review their scores
The judges will tally up their scores and will have an idea about the top-three winning teams
5:00PM - A Free Spirit Foundation representative announces the Top-Three Winning Teams from the Competition
This will be the opportunity for the judges to ask questions from the participants about their solution ideas
Winners will present their solution to the audience
Judges will talk about their perspectives about all of the solution ideas
Judges will announce the top-three winning teams and the winner!
The event organizers will join this session so they can announce the prizes
The regional judging scores, top-three winning teams from each hackathon, and prize announcements will be posted on DevPost.
6:30PM: Live Official Event Closing ( Embassy principal + ESTH officer + The Free Spirit Foundation)
